  3. Hi, I’m searching for a relative, his buried at Gladstone on death cert, died 6 May 1959, Edwin Smith, I believe he may have been Catholic. Would appreciate if you would see if you have any info/headstone/photo. Kay

  4. Good Afternoon
I’m chasing burial details for 3 relatives whose death certificates state that they are buried in the Many Peaks or Builyan Cemeteries in 1914; 1915 & 1932. I’ve been in touch with the Gladstone Council who have advised they have no records of any of these people. How can I check them against your records? I do not live in the Gladstone area.
    Regards
    Barry

  5. Hi Barry, not sure if you have received an email reply to your enquiry. See above for details on research enquiries. We do have access to some records of the Many Peaks cemetery (which our local council refers to erroneously as the Builyan Cemetery).

    • Just wondering if you found the burial/headstone for John August Lawson Bev.
My husband is a descendant of his.

  6. Bev
I sent out to Many Peaks last year as I have several ancestors buried there. What a sad sight, the cemetery is in quite a bad state and there are no more than a handful of tombstones. To make matters worse the cemetery is signed as Builyan Cemetery. Barry

  7. Good Evening, I would be interested in purchasing copies of the cemetery records within the Gladstone Region please.

  8. Hello,
I am trying to find any details available on Lin Quay who died 25/9/1911 and registered to have been buried at Gladstone Cemetery. We believe he may be linked to family somehow and wondered if he had a headstone that may give any indications?

  9. Hi Lorraine, I have some more information about the approximate location of the grave of Lin Quay, if you could pop your email address in a reply please?

  10. Hi, I am looking for my grandmother’s grave site where she was buried. Her name was Helen Douglas Gorrie McCaffrey. • No Helen McCaffery in Gladstone Cemetery sorry. If you would like us to research in other local cemeteries, there is a form for research enquiries to fill out and send. See ‘Research Request Form’ page. Payment of $15 is required to be sent with the form. Kind regards.

    • Hi Robyn, I might be able to help you. My Grandmother is one of Helen Douglas Gorrie McCaffrey’s daughters. Which means you would be my father’s first cousin? I can’t recall how many children there were, but I know there are more than 6. My understanding is that Helen died in Biloela, central QLD. The family were split up soon after her death. Hope this is helpful. I’d also love to know more about her family. I also live in NSW. Deb

  11. Hi. I’m trying to find a burial or cremation for a Bruce McConnell in a Gladstone Cemetery from 1st March 1955. Thanks Julie

  12. Hi, im trying to find my gggrandfather john percival meredith born 20th nov 1865 in tasmania. He died the 9th feb 1916 in gladstone. Im trying to find out if he was buried in gladstone. Thanks christine

      • Hi Christine
Yes, he was buried on 9 Feb 1916 in Section G Row 6 Grave 31. (Spelled MERIDATH). If there is a headstone, we may have a photo of it which you can purchase. I will have to check the charge for that.

  13. Hi there I am visiting Gladstone in a few days and I would like to find my granddads grave I attended his funeral I’m pretty sure it was in 1972 . His name is Akim Kapeechkin and I thought you might have a plot number thanks

    • Hi John, I am back in Gladstone. Akim Kapeechkin grave site number is Section F, Row 1, grave 10. Efrosina Kapeechkin ashes are in the same plot. Anisini Kapeechkin is in Section F, Row 2, grave 1.

    • Hello John, I know this is 2 years later, but I presume you know that there is an Agnes Keepechkin buried at Mt Larcom cemetery. I don’t know if she is related or not. She was 72 yrs and was buried in 1996. I have a photo of her grave.

  14. Hello, I am searching for the burial (location, section, grave number, etc) of Joseph Christian Gottlieb HAACK who died in 1954, he was living in Gladstone at that time. I need the information for a project on the WWI soldiers from the Beenleigh area.

  15. My Great Grandfather, Nicholas Joseph Gilmore was buried at Gladstone Cemetery on 11 August 1924. I have a photo of his headstone (erected by his wife) .
It is my Great Grandmother, his wife, that I cannot find. She died on 29 March 1932, supposedly in Gladstone. I believe her name was Bridget Gilmore (born: O’Gorman).
    Can you assist?

    • Hi Barry, I have checked the Cemetery Records and her burial is indexed (by Gladstone Council) as “Ridget” Gilmore. She is buried next to Nicholas Joseph Gilmore. He is at A-8-26 and she is in A-8-25. So no one has updated the headstone with Bridget’s details.

    • Hi Barry, Thrilled to see you on the forum. I’m researching Theresa Honora Gilmour, sister of Nicholas. Would you make contact please?
      G.

      • Hi Glenda
Theresa Honora Gilmore is buried in Maryborough cemetery.
I have seen her headstone, I am Nicholas’ great grandson (brother of Barry)
        Bill Gilmore

  16. I am looking for a gravesite at a cemetery in Gladstone for Eric Alfred Searle – born 16.1.1923 died in the last 10 years, and also his wife June Lorraine Searle (nee Altmann)

  17. Hi Team, I am interested in visiting the Gladstone area as my family dates back over 100 years in this area. However, I do not know where they are buried. There are too many to list. The family surname is LAST. For many other QLD councils, they give access to cemetery portals online to research and locate your ancestors and I am not able to find any thing similar for Gladstone. Would you please advise how I can do this remotely so that I can be prepared when I travel to Gladstone in the near future. I am interested in taking photos of all ancestor headstones. Thank you Karen

    • Hi Karen, The LAST family goes a long way back in Gladstone’s history. Gladstone Regional Council has records for all or most regional cemeteries. Our Society also collects records. Gladstone Regional Council is at present updating their database to allow online searching, but this won’t be finished for another 12 months at least (I just spoke to them last week about their records). Our Society has produced a CD listing burials at Gladstone Cemetery, Port Curtis Cemetery and photos of headstones – they go to 2010. (There are 16 LASTS in this database). We will update them when Council has completed their updating. We also hold indexes for Calliope, Mt Larcom, Raglan, Miriam Vale. Also a burial index of burials in Gladstone district which are NOT in Gladstone or Calliope Cemeteries. You can purchase these records (see the list of indexes available on our page, “Publications for Sale”). Or we can do look ups for $25 per hour. Kind regards, Paulette.

  18. Hi Im trying to find the exact location of my brother who was born stillborn in May of 1972. Jamie Mann buried 16th May 1972. No one i talk to can actually locate where he is just give me a rough idea as there is no headstone because he was full term stillborn
    thank you
    regards
    Jennelle

    • Hi Jennelle, I’m very sorry, but the cemetery records do not record the position of your little brother’s grave. I doubt that the Gladstone Regional Council can give you any more information, as the cemetery records we have made from council records have this note: “Age at death – stillborn infant – no further details in burial register”. Have you contacted the Parks and Environment Department in Gladstone Regional Council for information.

  19. Hi l have 2 relatives who passed away in Builyan so l am assuming that is where they are buried.
Charles Albert Schmidt 06/10/1928 & Margaret Brown 14/09/1929. How do l find out if that is there burial place or obtain photos
    Regards

    • Hi Narelle, Charles Albert SMITH appears in the Builyan/Many Peaks Cemetery. (It is actually the Many Peaks Cemetery, but Gladstone Regional Council persists in signing it the ‘Builyan Cemetery’, as it is located in what is now Builyan). Parents: Father: August Albert SMITH
Mother: Annie RABINE. I can’t find Margaret BROWN in the list I have though, which I believe is complete. She may have died there and been buried elsewhere. There is no headstone for Charles, I’m sorry. I also checked Gladstone Cemetery Records, and there is a Margaret Jane BROWN, but she died in 1934. Hope this helps.

  20. I am looking for a gravesite at a cemetery in Gladstone of Paul Daniels buried oh 24/01/2001. we would like to fine out were he is …. thanks Stan

  21. Hi All, Am looking for burial information on my Great Grandfather George Albert Partridge who was killed in a mining rockfall accident 10 May 1913 at Many Peaks mine. He was buried at Many Peaks Cemetery I think on the 12th May 1913. Could I trouble you for any information you have to support this information in your cemetery records. Is there possibly a headstone or location details etc that I could obtain or maybe a photograph of. Much appreciation and thanks Bettina

    • Hi Bettina, There is no headstone for your Great-grandfather, George Albert Partridge, unfortunately, and no location details to my knowledge. I do have two newspaper articles, one on his death, and a small comment on the inquiry following his death. You might find a copy of the inquest in the State Archives, Queensland, although 1913 is too late to find it in their online index, which only covers 1859 to 1902.

      • Hi, Many thanks for this. It is as I suspected, I have 6 articles covering the incident from Daily Standard (Bne); Morning Bulletin (R’ton); Gympie Times & Mary River Mining Gazette; and Capricornian (R’ton) newspapers. If the one on his death is from another newspaper I would love a copy. I have nothing on the inquest so that one would be great also. I live in Brisbane so I will have to mosey on in to the State Archives and see what I can find regarding the inquest. What do I need to do to obtain those copies I specified? I’m sure it makes no difference but I am a pensioner so I would be looking for cheaper options. I am extremely grateful for your assistance in this matter. Organisations such as yours would not exist if not for the tireless work of volunteers and I am very appreciative of your help. Many thanks again. Bettina

  22. Hi Bettina, the one I had is from the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin, so you already have it. I can email you through the other article, but it doesn’t say much. Good luck with finding an inquest if it is at State Archives.

  23. Looking for a Alice Jane Simpson died after 1937 in Tasmania, her husband John Simpson died South Mount Cameron on 20-9-1932 and is buried at Gladstone General Cemetery Tasmania.

  24. I was wondering if you could help me. There are three graves at Targinnie cemetery for Butler children. Kenneth Wells Butler who lived 53 days and his stillborn twin born 9th March 1922. Next to them is an unnamed sister born 9th September 1928 who died 4 days later. Approximately 2 meters away is another grave with a broken name plaque. The only legible print is “___orn)” and “__28”, the first word is consistent with the stillborn tags on the other Butler graves and 1928 was when the unnamed Butler girl died.

Are you able to tell me if the 4th grave is another twin? Also do you have any other information about the Butler children?

    • Hi, I have had a look at our Targinnie Cemetery Records, and there was only one Butler child died in 1928. In fact, that was the only burial at Targinnie in 1928. I don’t have any other information to hand about the Butler children, but if you look at the page on this blog about Research Request, you will find a form to fill out if you would like our Research Officer to do paid research. Our Society does have access to many local history records. Kind regards, Paulette Flint.

    • Hello,
There is a burial for “Child W Lenz”, stillborn, date of death – 03 December 1928, grave number T5. I wonder if this is the child that you are asking about? This information comes from Gladstone Regional Council Cemetery records from 2009.
      Cheers
      Janice

      • please don’t send me anymore info. Unsubscribe my email address

      • Thank you Janice. That is likely the grave that I was looking at. I thought because of it’s proximity to the Butler children that it may have been another one of their’s.

  25. Could someone please look at Burials for the Gladstone area from 1890 for a Mrs. Maria Clayton who was listed as a Resident from 1890-1898 or thereafter. She may also have gone by the name Mrs. Maria Clarke or Welch. Born London 1842.
    Thank you for any help.

    • Hi Robyn, I have checked our Gladstone Cemetery Register, but there is no Maria Clayton/Clarke/Welch listed in the burials. If you would like further research into Cemeteries in the wider Gladstone region, please fill out a Research Request Form and return to our email addresss gladgen@hotmail.com. Kind regards,
      Paulette Flint (Secretary).

  26. Hi,

I have information in a family tree entry that Patrick Considine Flint was buried in Gladstone Cemetary (as far as I can find out he lived in Mount Morgan) and the date of death was 17th November 1955. Is it possible to find his burial information, and/or if there is a head stone, as I am hoping to find his birthdate. I cannot find a birth certificate for him even though his sisters and brothers all have one. Kind regards, Debby.

  27. I would like to find my uncle grave, he died in Gladstone. About 1968.or about, Walter Baylyn is his name, do not know actual date. Sorry.

  28. Qld BDM indexes show him dying on 4 June 1968. The registration is 1968/B/97741, The B usually indicates registered in Brisbane. He may be buried in a Brisbane cemetery.

  29. I am trying to find burial details for
Ellen HARWOOD died Many Peaks Hospital 21st November 1918
    and her Mother
Isabella DIXON who died August 1919 in Many Peaks.
Is there a burial register for this Cemetery?

  30. I am looking for the grave of my g,g,g grandfather George Clark. He died on 14 Feb 1878, and buried in Gladstone or maybe Point Curtis. Wondering if there is a headstone? His wife Sarah died in 1870 also there, not sure if they were buried alongside each other.

Sarah had arrived with her father James Wanmer as some of the first white settlers at Point Curtis.

    • Hi Mark

Both Sarah and George are buried at “Old” Gladstone Cemetery. Sarah has a headstone and is buried along with her son David who passed away aged 6 months on 15 November 1868. She is buried in Section G Row 13 Position 31. George is buried in an unmarked grave in Section G Row 10 Position 10.

  31. Could you please tell me if your Calliope and Mount Larcom cemetery books are for sale?
Or when are you guys open so I could come have a look at them!
I am searching for burial records for Thomas Patrick Crosisca a newspaper article found in Trove said he was buried in Mount larcom, I can find his wife’s records at Mount Larcom she is in plot MC55 Bridget Crosisca. Is it possible he was buried with her?
Do you still do pioneer certificates and how much do they now cost!
Would love to come and join in sometime soon.
    Cheers
    Karen Bridge nee Crosisca

    • Hi Karen, Yes those books are for sale. We are open Monday Nights (excepting Public Holiday’s) from 7pm to 9pm, Wednesdays from 9:30 to 3:30 pm and on Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 pm if you wished to pop in. We still do Pioneer Certificates, they cost $6.00. We would love to see you anytime you were able to pop in.

    • My family is also from Calliope and I have information on the Crosisca family if you are interested. Also, did you write “The Huguenot and the Chinese Interpreter” on the Moreton Bay and More site? Regards, Linda Coonan

      • Hi Linda. Karen Bridge (Crosisca) has given us some information about Crosisca family. If you have more, we would be grateful for it for our Local History files. As far as I know, we did not write the Huguenot and the Chinese Interpreter” on the Moreton Bay site. Paulette Flint

      • Paulette,

It is sometimes spooky where a general Google search will take you. I was wanting to contact Karen Bridge because of the articles she was writing on WordPress about early Chinese in Queensland. I assumed that leaving a reply meant it would be forwarded on to her.

        Regards,

        Linda
